Doris & Clara Community Initiative (DCCI) was founded in August 2018. DCCI registered the organization in the state of Illinois in September 2018 and obtained 501c3 in the same month. DCCI's ultimate goal is to go beyond the band-aid solution of community clean-up; but truly serve the individuals in the community working with them to enhance their personal lives and subsequently improve their own community.
Summer 2018, two native Chicagoans gathered to discuss the despair of many communities on the Westside and Southside of Chicago and what needed to change. During the conversation they begin to realize they have the knowledge, tools, resources, passion, and commitment to work collaborative residents (their neighbors and childhood community) to improve these communities. The founders are Westside and Southside residents born and raised and ready to give back to their roots and make a positive change.
October 2019, DCCI expanded their reach to include communities in Southwest Louisiana (SWLA). The concerns that were identified in Chicago, also plague other communities across America. We are excited to have SWLA residents on the board and ready to work to be the change they want to see in the world!
In 2020, the world changed! DCCI changed as well. Our mission is to still enhance individual lives and improve communities through education & training, collaborative partnerships, and economic stability; but now we are not just limited to Chicago and Southwest Louisiana. We are taking our efforts, knowledges and resources wherever there is a need! If your community has a need and you do not know where to start; let's collaborate together and be the change!
