Age range: 5th - 12th grades
Experience: a variety of programs with topics regarding budgeting, financial planning, economy, stock market, entrepreneurship, career planning, and saving for short and long-term goals. Bonus: Parents/guardians & adult siblings of participants are eligible to participant in a FREE financial advising and planning program. After completing one or more program through the Financial Literacy Academy participants will be able to:
- Use a basic budget and transition from planning for day-to-day to financially planning their year including basic needs and various savings.
- Learn how education, entrepreneurship, credit, and other resources in the economy will help elevate themselves and their families out of poverty.
- Understand the acquisition of assets and begin to set goals to develop wealth.
- Know the role themselves, their families, and community play in the economy specifically towards consumption of goods and services.
- Apply the knowledge and skills to build wealth your themselves and family and give-back to the communities they reside.
Collaboration with The Work Foundation
Summer 2019, July 1st - August 8th through a partnership with The Work Foundation and materials from Junior Achievement we launched the FLA's Summer Program. We provided financial education to 35 youth on the south side of Chicago. Based on our pre/post-test data majority of participants increased their knowledge and through anecdotal observations and stories they have begin to apply the information learned.
Summer 2020, July 2nd - August 20th through a partnership with The Work Foundation and materials from Junior Achievement we hosted the 2nd annual FLA's Summer Program. We provided financial education to 15 youth on the south side of Chicago. The results from the program continue to show students are learning new information and applying this information to their life.
